Interface, Portikus

Frankfurt on the Main, 2021

For the final exhibition of the Städelschule at Portikus GRAU Fire Interface, a light piece that transforms the art space into a giant display. The sculpture Fire Interface performs a 24/7 light performance in the Portikus and through its glass roof, giving the Frankfurt skyline a calm breath.

Fire Interface is a dynamic sculpture that creates a strong, irregular Light radiates. It uses the transformative power of light to influence the relationship between people, objects and space. Interface shapes the space between things. When the sculpture lights up, the brightness hits the architecture and the eyes of the visitors. The Light is emitted in an irregular rhythm that changes from calm meditation to stressed breathing. This irregular, time-based performance brings the object to life and conveys an ambivalent tension to the audience.
